Do not think that the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) is going to be able to get to you in time,
the only first thing you need to do is save yourself. Unfortunately,
even after 10 days of post-Katrina rescue, there were still people
starving to death in New Orleans.
No one can predict when or when it will
happen but you can prepare now on whatever will happen.
I will give you some tips on how to
survive any disaster.
- Water is one of the most important think to have for survival. I believe that without water, you cannot think fast. Thirst kills you faster than famine.
- Make a catastrophe kit on your property outside your house and garage. It is as easy getting a plastic 55-gallon trash bin with clips on the lid to hold it shut. Or use a small plastic/metal garden shed in your yard.
- Keep atleast2 pairs of your clothes and make sure to put it inside the plastic. You will need a dry clothes that you can be warm enough in to sleep while dressed.
- It is also important to have a tents, tarps, ponchos, sleeping bags or wood blankets and cooking gear. You can use this things to survive and to save your family. Don't also forget to keep lighters, utensils, can-openers, and a pan to boil water on your survival list.
- On another sealed plastic put also the basic medicines and vitamins that your family must have.
- Emergency radio is also important for broadcast. Ideally, CB radio or Nextet-type network phone. List also the numbers of your family and emergency number .
- It is also important to backup your business files using external hard drives. You probably won't be thinking about your business in the middle of a disaster, but when your survive you will need to rebuild your life and business as soon as possible.
